About PI

Sehi L’Yi is an incoming tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Before joining HKUST, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University and received his Ph.D. from Seoul National University. His research lies at the intersection of Data Visualization, Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), and Biomedical Informatics. His work has been published in top-tier conferences and journals across his fields, including VIS, TVCG, CHI, UIST, Nature Methods, Bioinformatics, and npj Digital Medicine. His work has been recognized by academic awards, such as NIH/NHGRI K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award, VIS Best Paper Honorable Mention Award, ISMB BioVis Best Abstract Award, ISMB BioVis Runner-Up Abstract Award, and VIS Best Poster Research Award. He has been serving as a program committee member for top conferences in visualization, including VIS, EuroVis, and PacificVis.

Research Interest

Our lab is working on Data Visualization, Human–Data Interaction, Data Accessibility, and Biomedical/Health Informatics. Specifically, our lab focuses on making real-world impact by designing, evaluating, and deploying practical solutions that address actual problems of target users.
